THE ADAPTATION OF ISLAMIC PRINCIPLES IN SARAWAK TRADITIONAL MALAY HOUSE

Historically, in the event of Islam's arrival Malay Archipelago, ways Islam were adapted to lifestyle community. It's part modernizing traditional thoughts (akliah) which is influenced by Islamic values and teachings. One manifestations influence can be identified from design characteristics Traditional houses, developed with underlying principles Islam. This paper discusses application Sarawak houses. The research was conducted on three houses chosen located Kuching, Sarawak. methods observation case study employed, focusing interior space house certain other components. In addition, interviews performed owners that comprised samples focus group discussions 12 people over 65. findings indicate concepts may related Sarawak: concept occupant social connections, residential space, construction design.
